ELK Stack
Elasticsearch, Logstash and Kibana

"ELK" is the acronym for three open source projects: Elasticsearch, Logstash, and Kibana.

Elasticsearch

Elasticsearch is an open source and full-text search engine. Its main function is to find anything that is related to the text that you enter. Elasticsearch is able to build a powerful search engine that can sort and find information through specifically designed criteria. Suppose we are browsing an online shop. With Elasticsearch we can give users the possibility to sort products by their price, relevance, popularity, or just by name.

Logstash

Logstash is a data processing pipeline. Originally its sole purpose was to process logs from applications and send them to Elasticsearch. Still today that is one of its main uses, but through time it functionality has increased helping us process different logs of data, such as ecommerce orders, customers, chat messages and so on. Datas inputs are then processed through a specific plugin filter and then sent in appropriate locations as an output. A simple example could be an IP address entry to process its geographical location.

Kibana

Kibana lets you visualize and make sense of all the data taken from Elasticsearch. Data can be aggregated into a dashboard composed of line charts or pie charts, to help you extract useful information easily. For instance you can plug Kibana to your website and keep track of user traffic live, allowing you to understand in which area or time your landing page is more effective. Kibana can be seen as the face of ELK.
